On the shores of the Mediterranean, Marseille is a city of contrasts and a multicultural melting pot. It was in this coastal city that the Pain de Sucre brand was born, a name that immediately conjures up the bay of Rio, with its endless beaches and dazzling colours, a longing for distant horizons and the promise of bold and free-spirited beachwear fashion.
Since its creation, people have been at the heart of its activity. Inspired by a family tradition of tailor artisans on the legendary 'Canebière' since the 1950s, the founders very early on imagined an ‘Art of living on the beach’ by conceptualising the swimming costume. Both bikinis and one-piece swimming costumes became key pieces in women’s wardrobes and took over the codes of ready-to-wear. They selected buttons, buckles, rivets, zips and cabochon gems from their elders’ drawers to adorn their models.
Completely self-taught and avant-garde in their approach to designing seaside clothing, they expanded their range with colourful, unique prints and matching beach outfits for every single woman: dresses, tunics, sarongs, caftans, trousers... Silhouettes crafted from quality materials and meticulously finished to create new series of summer outfits.
Success was immediate.
